The following documents are mandatory for registration:

  • For CH citizens a proof of identity (ID or passport)**
  • For foreign nationals, a valid residence permit (front and back)*
  • employment contract*
  • termination*
  • CV / Curriculum vitae*
  • documentation of endeavours to find work*

If available: application dossier, medical certificate, documents IV

The permitted size per file is 4MB. A maximum of 19 MB is possible.

Place of residence
For successful registration with the RAV Basel-Stadt, we require a confirmation of registration from the Basel-Stadt Residents' Registration Office or a confirmation of the CH e-move. Please upload this document in step 10.
If you are simultaneously registered in another canton and have registered as a weekly resident in the canton of Basel-Stadt, you can choose between the RAV at your place of residence and the RAV Basel-Stadt. The prerequisite is that you are registered as a weekly resident with the Basel-Stadt Residents' Registration Office.

Please register with the RAV in your respective municipality. You can find an overview of which RAV is responsible for you on the website arbeit.swiss.

You must claim unemployment benefit from the relevant authority at your place of residence.

France: France Travail
Germany: Bundesagentur für Arbeit

Cross-border commuters who wish to register as jobseekers in Switzerland after registering with the employment office at their place of residence must visit the RAV Basel-Stadt in person. Prerequisite for registering as a jobseeker:

  • Cross-border commuter permit
  • Confirmation of registration from France Travail or the Federal Employment Agency (Germany)
  • Already working in Switzerland with the aim of continuing to work in Switzerland
